Our vision at Lifesong is taken directly from some of the key instructions given to us by Jesus. In His earthly ministry, He inspired us to love God with all of our heart and to love our neighbors as ourselves. In fact, He said that, “There is no greater commandments than these.” (Matthew 22:37-40; Mark 12:30-31; Luke 10:27).  Additionally, after Jesus' resurrection from the dead, before His ascension to Heaven, he instructed us to go into the entire world and make disciples. (Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15; Luke 24:47). At Lifesong we believe that all the church is commissioned to do in this world is based off of these three simple instructions. We believe if people will fall in love with God, love people with all of their heart, and share the message of Jesus wherever they go in life, then they will find the abundant life that Christ has promised to those who believe in Him.

Love God

At Lifesong, we don't believe in “religion”, we believe in a relationship. We believe that we can experience a relationship with God that is more alive and real than any earthly relationship experience. We believe that the only way we are capable of experiencing this relationship and giving our love to God is through the depths of truly understanding God's love for us. 1 John 4:9-10; 19 states this truth perfectly, “In this the love of God was made manifested toward us, that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might love through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. We love Him because He first loved us.”

Love People

In His teaching, Jesus took the commandment to love people to an entirely different level. His teaching in Luke 6 instructs us to not only love those who are easy for us to love, but to “love our enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you” (Luke 6:27-36). Jesus led the example of love as He laid down his life willingly for all of mankind. Again, 1 John 4 states in perfectly, “Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God, and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us. If someone says, 'I love God,' and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen?”

Make Disciples who Change the World

Before Jesus left this earth in triumphant ascension to the right hand of the Father, he left his church with a commission to preach the gospel to every person all over the world and make disciples. At Lifesong, we believe that before people can make disciples, they should be willing to be disciples. This means surrendering our lives to God in every area and living for His glory and not our own. It means submitting ourselves to the authority of the scripture, seeking Him through the power of prayer, and following Him through the direction of the Holy Spirit. Ultimately, living a life that is a demonstration of the transformative power of Jesus Christ. 1 John 2:15-17 states “Do no love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.”

We make disciples by making a commitment to boldly share our faith with all men. The apostle Paul stated in Romans 1:16, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes.” We make disciples by using our gifts and talents to serve the church. We make disciples by committing time in our lives to building gospel-based relationships that encourage, strengthen, and build others up in their journey with Christ. The bible speaks of these relationships as “Iron sharpening Iron, so is one man to another.” Finally, at Lifesong, we make disciples by supporting and sending the work of missionaries throughout the world, executing various outreach events in our local community, and partnering with other local, outreach organizations.
